I can't believe its already almost been 4 months since sweet Theo came into this world! I knew I needed to get his birth story down before I forget any more details!
Monday, November 9: I had contractions all night, they weren't strong but were coming pretty frequently. Caleb ended up taking Tuesday morning off because I was still having them. But they went away and he went back to work.
Wednesday, November 11: I got a pedicure and went to Target by myself and walked around for TWO hours! Caleb texted and said "you'll let me know if you go into labor won't you?" HAHA!
Thursday, November 12: I woke up feeling pretty nauseous and had a few stronger contractions while driving the boys to school in the morning. They went away by the afternoon though.
Thursday around 9:30pm, the contractions started picking up again. I started timing them with my app (which I still can't bring myself to delete off my phone!) They were pretty frequent, had no real pattern but weren't going away. I self debated for a good while about rather to call Mom or not. Finally decided to call her at 5:15am. (Friday early morning). She loaded up and drove down.
Friday morning: Mom got here around 8:30. Caleb went on to work after she got here. I came downstairs and sure enough the contractions were GONE. Totally gone.
I had my 39 week dr. apt at 11:30. I thought for sure he'd tell me I was dilated to a 3 or 4 since I had contractions most the night. Nope, he said I was 1 MAYBE a 1.5 and if he had any guesses it would be awhile before baby came. He talked about induction once I went past my due date. I was SO discouraged!
Jess had planned to come down that day so she got to our house around 12? We hung out at our house for awhile and then went to run a couple errands while Mom stayed at our house with the kiddos. I was starting to feel a little sick but just thought it was from lack of sleep. We went to TJ Max around 3:00 and I had a couple HUGE mega contractions (like pause, hold onto something, breathe). We finished shopping and then went to Wal*Mart so I could look really quick for something. I had a couple more contractions.
We came home, and I started timing them again around 4:30? Mom was thinking about heading home since I couldn't decide if the contractions were real or not. But they kept coming so she stayed, GOOD THING! I got in the bath and really still wasn't convinced it was the real deal yet. I could pretty easily breath through them and I knew how bad they were about to get! I tried laying down but couldn't relax so I got back in the bath around 5:30 and stayed in there quite awhile. Caleb made me some oatmeal (which I ate in the bath! HA!) around 7? Sis was texting with Mom and decided to head down after she got Olly to bed, just incase!
I texted my doula at 8:50 telling her the contractions were getting stronger but still no real pattern and some stronger than others. She suggested I call the dr. on call and see if they wanted me to go in. The on call dr. called back about 9:20 and said I should come in. We gathered our stuff, said goodnight to the boys (who were so excited but I still wasn't convinced I was going to have the baby! So I warned them it may not really be time!) We headed to the hospital around 10. Pretty sure Caleb hit every pot hole on the way ;) I got to triage about 10:45 and was dilated to 6-7!! I couldn't believe my ears! Such wonderful news! I could still breathe through them but just knew they would be getting worse so I REALLY couldn't decide if I wanted to get an epidural or not. They gave me my iv, which took them a good 3 tries to finally get it the way they wanted it.
I got to my room at 11:45, they checked me and I was already a 9! I really still couldn't decide about the epidural!! I knew how painful it was with Ezra (no epidural) but also knew how much anxiety I had about getting the epidural (with Jonah) that it was a tough choice. 11:55pm, Caleb helped nudge me along and I decided yes to epidural. BEST DECISION EVER!
I was able to relax and just get some much needed rest. I didn't have great epidural experiences with Owen or Jonah so it was amazing. NO pain. 12:20am, my water was still intact. We were waiting for baby to come down on his own. 1:12am, part of my cervix was still closed so I changed positions. 1:25am, I decided to have them break my water. 1:30am, they broke my water and there was some light meconium. I started to panic because it seemed like the Dr. was a little panicked but she basically said I just couldn't hold Theo right away after he was born. 1:45am, the nurses/doctor started prepping the room, lots more people came in (they had respiratory/NICU staff come in to be able to check Theo out right away). 1:53am, I started pushing. 1:55am BABY THEODORE BLISS! 7 lbs. 14.9 oz 20.5 inches, head circumference: 14.25
2:45am, first nursing!
So thankful for my Sis who has been there at all 4 of my labor and deliveries! She helps me so much! And takes great notes for me :)
